Exploris Aquarium Celebrates One Millionth Visitor with Holiday of a Lifetime
Portaferry, County Down, Friday 22nd August 2025
Exploris Aquarium in Portaferry has reached an exciting milestone, officially welcoming its one millionth visitor since reopening its doors in 2016. The milestone moment was marked in style on Friday 22nd August, when the Fitzgerald family from County Kildare became the lucky one-millionth guests to step inside the popular aquarium and seal sanctuary.
The Fitzgeralds – Carly, Ger, and their children Ollie and Jack were warmly greeted by staff as they visited the aquarium, unaware that their visit would turn into a day to remember. To mark the occasion, Exploris surprised the family with an unforgettable gift: a ten-day holiday to Florida, including visits to Seaworld, Aquatica and Busch Gardens, plus $1000 spending money.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have reached this incredible milestone,” said a spokesperson for Exploris Aquarium. “It’s a testament to the hard work of our team, the loyalty of our visitors, and the important role Exploris plays in tourism and education here in Northern Ireland.”
Located on the shores of Strangford Lough, Exploris Aquarium is one of Northern Ireland’s top family attractions, drawing visitors from across the UK, Ireland, and beyond. Since its major refurbishment and reopening in 2016, it has become a must-see destination, offering a fascinating glimpse into marine life native to Irish waters and exotic species from around the globe.
The millionth-visitor celebration underscores Exploris Aquarium’s ongoing commitment to conservation, education, and unforgettable visitor experiences. With exciting new exhibits, interactive learning zones, and seasonal events, the aquarium continues to grow as a vital part of the local tourism landscape.
